(File AP Photo)Fox News has learned Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is actively considering nixing the week-long Fourth of July recess, set to begin Friday, this after President Obama chided lawmakers for not remaining in town as debt talks hang in the balance.

Reid calls the shots on the Senate schedule, though a senior Senate Democratic leadership aide tells Fox News he is also consulting with Republicans.

Republicans do not, however, need to sign off on the move. And one senior Senate GOP leadership aide said it would be next to impossible for Reid to do anything other than cancel recess, with the president "throwing down the gauntlet."

The Senate was already scheduled to be in pro forma session to preclude any presidential recess appointments.
