Missy Elliott has gone public with her an unfortunate diagnosis: the singer has Graves' Disease.

There is no cure for this autoimmune disease, which centers around an overactive thyroid that produces an excessive amount of hormones and causes a serious imbalance known as hyperthyroidism and thyrotoxicosis.

Elliott found out about the condition in 2008.

The hip hop star has been receiving radiation treatment - which has led to weight gain - to help her deal with symptoms such as dizzy spells, mood swings, hair loss and bulging eyes. Overall?

"You live with it for the rest of your life," she says.

Graves' Disease is NOT fatal, and Elliott is looking on the bright side: "My thyroid is functioning, so I haven't had to take medication in about nine months."

We wish her all the best.
