Perhaps Jaycee Dugard can finally find a semblance of peace.
In court yesterday, Phillip Garrido - the serial sex offender on trial for kidnapping Duggard as an 11-year, fathering two children with her and keeping her hostage in a backyard compound - was sentenced to life in prison.
Garrido and wife Nancy, who will serve at least 36 years behind bars, did not make eye contact with Terry Probyn as she read the first public statement from her daughter since Jayce was discovered 22 months ago.

"I chose not to be here today because I refuse to waste another second of my life in your presence," Dugard wrote. "Everything you ever did to me was wrong and I hope one day you will see that.
"I hated every second of every day for 18 years. You stole my life and that of my family... There is no God in the universe that would condone your actions."
Garrido kidnapped Dugard after he as paroled on charges of rape and kidnapping in 1976, following just 11 years in prison.
In this instance, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and 13 sexual assault charges, including six counts of rape and seven counts of committing lewd acts captured on video.
When handing down the maximum penalty, judge Douglas Phimister told the 60-year old monster:
"Basically what you did was you took a human being and turned them into a chattel, a piece of furniture, to be used by you at your whim. You reinvented slavery."
