Love it or hate it, the Chicago Pride Fest and Parade will be front and center all weekend kicking off today. The 9th annual event seems to draw a larger crowd every year. Conservatively, expect literally hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators to descend on the already space-challenged Boystown neighborhood for two stages of live music featuring headliners Crystal Waters and "Dancing With the Stars", Mya plus food vendors, drag shows, arts, crafts and a pet parade. On Sunday, The Gay Pride Parade steps off from Halsted and Belmont at noon. Fest, Friday, June 24 : 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. $7 donation before 5 p.m.; $10 after. 773-868-3010
Please note: Parking is almost impossible in this area and there will be street closures. Bike, walk or take public transportation. For those heading to other locations in the city plan extra time to get where you are going. Try to avoid the area from Diversey Ave. north to Irving Park Rd. and Sheffield east to Lake Shore Drive.
Taste of Chicago 2011.
Pig out or eat healthy--your choice--with culinary offerings from Chicago's various neighborhoods at the city's 31st annual Taste of Chicago. 59 restaurants are participating in this years Taste. Guests can sample old favorites including the original Rainbow Cone, Robinson's Ribs and Eli's Cheesecake or try something new. Other offerings include Vegan, Asian, Thai, Italian and more.
The Fest also dishes up free daily concerts, chef demonstrations, family activities and more. Daily 11a.m. to 8:30p.m., Grant Park. Admission free. Strip of 12 food tickets, $8. Grant Park June 24-July 3 (closes at 6p.m. on the 3rd.).
Jammin' at the Zoo.
Lincoln Park Zoo's Jammin' at the Zoo concert series kicks off tonight (Friday) with OneRepublic. All-ages show. 7p.m. South Lawn, 2200 N. Cannon Drive, adults $23-$28, children $12-$14 (ages 4 to 12). 312 742 2283.
Green Music Fest.
This green themed fest in Wicker Park features environmentally friendly vendors (food, arts and crafts) and exhibits along with cutting edge music. Green Music Fest. Randolph Street Market Festival.
This festival features antiques, art and collectibles from over 200 dealers. Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26. Inside and outside, Journeymen Plumbers Hall, 1340 W. Washington Blvd. 10a.m to 5p.m, both days.
Chicago Summerfest.
Lincoln Park gets into the act with live music, beer, arts and crafts and activities and entertainment plus guided historical/architectural tours of the area. 2045 N. Lincoln Park West. Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, June 26, noon to 9 p.m. $5 donation.
3-Legged Pub Crawl.
More fun in Wrigleyville as lady and gentlemen teams navigate the neighborhood on a three-legged pub crawl to eight spots along Southport Ave. Starts at Messner's Wrigleyville, 3553 N. Southport Ave. Saturday, June 25, 1:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. $7-$10. 773-325-0123.
Theater Openings.
