For as far back as I can remember, when I needed guidance, a voice would whisper in my ear a name. I would go to that person and get advice for that particular problem in my life. For a long time after I converted, I would still hear that voice. And then it stopped.I would pray with all my heart to hear a name. I would beg God to grant me that voice again, but to this day, I never hear it.
It took me years to figure out that God didn't want me to turn to other people anymore for guidance. He wanted me to come to Him.
Every once in a while someone will say something and it will "click" with me. Or I'll read something and have that light bulb moment. A few times, while watching Mother Angelica, I've nearly sent the laptop to the floor because she has said something that seemed to be directly aimed at me!
I suppose it's a personal choice and if you have found someone that you feel is guiding you and you are progressing in your faith, then you should be on your knees in gratitude! And if not, there are other voices out there to listen to.
