UK private investigator Jonathan Rees is being investigated after accusations of hacking celebrities at the behest of Rupert Murdoch's News International.

According to The Guardian, Kate Middleton was one high-profile target.

Rees hacked the Duchess' phone when she was still dating Prince William, reports say, while her bank accounts may have also been compromised.

It is not immediately clear if and when Kate Middleton was hacked, but as Prince William's longtime girlfriend, she's been highly visible for years.

The newlywed joins several other big-name suspected targets of Rees, including Tony Blair, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and George Michael.

Several cases have been confirmed, including those involving Sienna Miller and Kelly Hoppen, while the rest are still being investigated.

Rees worked for the celebrity gossip staples Mirror Group and News of the World. Other journalists and editors have already been arrested.
