With summer weather upon us and schools letting out, children look forward to spending all day outdoors. When rainy days hit though, children and adults need to look for creative ways to keep busy and expend energy. There are many options for indoor fun around Chicagoland, and The Treehouse in Lake Zurich even accommodates those with food allergies and sensitivities.Opened in September 2009, The Treehouse in Lake Zurich provides a comfortable and inviting space for children as well as adults. Children can cross bridges, swing on ropes, slide down slides, play basketball, and climb the massive tree house in the center of the play area. A smaller, enclosed play area is designated for infants and toddlers. Parents can enjoy the leather couches and recliners strategically positioned to allow for neighborhood gossip over coffee while having a clear view of their children playing.
Inevitably, all of that playing will require some refueling. Many of the popular chain play places and indoor entertainment facilities around Chicagoland allow children with food allergies to bring in their own meal. Monkey Joe's offers a hot dog (without bun), applesauce, and fruit cups at most of their Chicagoland locations that are gluten free. Pump It Up allows customers with food allergies to bring in their own food and dessert when attending a Pump It Up party. Chuck E Cheese's company policy is to allow children with allergies to bring in their own meal but not adults. Their website does list which menu items contain various food allergies, leaving those of us with gluten allergies to enjoy the salad bar without dressing.
Although no outside food is allowed, The Treehouse goes the extra mile to help accommodate those with food sensitivities. It is a peanut free facility and offers soy milk as well as regular milk for their coffee drinks. Their menu includes breakfast sandwiches, gourmet sandwiches, salads, and children's menu of typical fare (hot dogs, pizza bagel, quesadilla). They provide an ingredient list for all of their menu items and can accommodate celiacs and those with gluten allergies with several of their menu items. Sandwiches can be served on a lettuce wrap, they offer a gluten free salad dressing, guacamole, salsa, and have nacho chips and chili that are also gluten free. They also offer healthy snacks such as fresh fruit with sunbutter, veggies, and applesauce, as well as several frozen treats.
Shel Silverstein put it best. " A tree house. A secret you and me house. Let's go live in a treehouse!"
