Egregious acts of stupidity, while often being as entertaining as they are offensive, do not constitute news.
People who have an insatiable need for attention-the borderlines, the narcissists, should ideally not be indulged.
I generally do not discuss the self-absorbed, the talentless , the vapid-in other words if someone says "Did you see that Snooki crashed her car in Italy?"- I respond with: "Leave me alone".
Deliberate ignorance should not be celebrated. We as a society promote intellectual curiosity, those who are not interested in being interested-do not deserve our interest.
Ideally, one's job is predicated on their "skill set". I cannot walk into a Cook County Court House and say "I want to be a judge, where can I get an application?". I cannot show up to U.S. Cellular Field and say "The White Sox are great, I can see the park from my house-you betcha", and be on the team.
The unwritten criteria for being President of the United States, goes beyond a pretty face and an ability to be hyper-patriotic in one's rhetoric. A third grader giving a speech can repeatedly use the phrase "This great class of ours is so great"-and still not be elected class president- even if they actually know the story of Paul Revere.
Americans do not glorify quitters.
George Washington and his men braved unimaginable conditions-hungry, cold, underequipped, short on everything other than resolve , they persevered, fighting until the mission was accomplished. (Not George Bush Mission Accomplished-but in a factual sense)
Jackie Robinson was mercilessly attacked, both verbally and physically, as he broke baseball's long systematically enforced color line. Most would of quit, unable to take the daily barrage of racial epithets, of hurled objects, of quite simply- unforgivable disrespect. Jackie turned the other cheek.
The single mother who works two jobs she hates, all in the name of "making ends meet" for her family. Hero. The men and women of our Armed Services, who would do anything for a second with a loved one, anything except quit. Heroes.
Some people deserve our attention, our respect. They brave through demeaning jobs, overwhelmingly difficult situations, seemingly insurmountable hurdles, they are the ones that do not quit.
Others can't handle one term as Governor of Alaska.
Groucho Marx famously said "I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member".
Well if I may change it up a bit:
I don't care to belong to any club that would have an egregiously stupid, narcissistic, vapid, gleefully ignorant, shameless quitter, as a member. And as of right now, I also do not care to pay her any more attention.
Well, unless she actually decides to run for President.
