Too bad, the Sox really deserved that one...

To sum it up, that was stupid.

Well, you tried. (Nuccio DiNuzzo, Chicago Tribune / June 4, 2011)

It's games like this when my White Sox fandom makes me contemplate various avenues of self-harm. Let me set the scene.

Edwin Jackson showed why he's dispensable and valuable, simultaneously. After a 1-out, 2-run home run to Brennan Boesch, I thought Edwin would be able to make a 7 pm dinner reservation downtown. When he loaded the bases after that, I started drafting a petition to bring the slaughter rule to Major League Baseball.

Apparently, Edwin could feel my soul crying because he ended his 40 pitch first inning, and battled through 6 innings. I was ready to be happy with 4 innings, especially when he was at around 80 pitches through 3. He did not allow another run after the first inning, despite walking 700 batters (4), and churned out 120 pitches. This would normally concern me, but our starters go about once a week so let it all out, guys. This start sums up Edwin Jackson perfectly. He is too wild for his own good, and he racks up the pitches, but somehow he pulls 6 innings out of nowhere. I can't wait to see how Scott Boras sells him in the offseason.

Before the game started, I thought that we would either win the game or get no-hit. After 3 innings, it looked like it would be the latter. After 1 swing of Gordon Beckham's bat in the 5th inning, I thought I was brilliant and we would get the W.

What new? I was wrong on both. We had our chances against Verlander after we tied it up, with runners on the corners and 1 out, but we couldn't come up with another big hit. Unfortunately, the Tigers did in the top of the 9th after a lead off triple from Austin Jackson. It looked like we would escape with the tie in tact after a pop up, strikeout, and a 1-2 count to Miguel Cabrera.

Yea, we feel ya. (Nuccio DiNuzzo, Chicago Tribune / June 4, 2011)

Ha. Next thing I know, I'm watching him hit the ball out of the park, and I'm screaming expletives and unkind words about his personal problems. Despite less than impressive stuff from Tigers' closer Jose Valverde, the Sox couldn't get it done. This ballgame was ovah.

I personally feel this game would've been completely different if Paul Konerko were in the lineup...as much as I am entertained by AJ Pierzynski batting cleanup. He is expected to be out until Monday after having a "procedure" to flush out a bone fragment in his wrist. My favorite part about this is that he was supposedly available to pinch-hit yesterday because the average recovery time for this type of procedure is about 5 hours, yet Paul Konerko needs 3+ days. Typical. Love the guy.

After the start to this game that we had, it seemed like winning would take a miracle, but it wasn't out of reach. The White Sox, in a nutshell, ladies and gentlemen.

Tomorrow, my Pet Peav against Brad Penny for the rubber match. I will be making my grand return to U.S. Cellular field for my first game since I cried my eyes out at Frank Thomas Day last August. I'll try my best to bring home a win...
