Most people might not think of a vacation with the grandmother-in-law as a can't miss event, but most grandmothers-in-law aren't Queen Elizabeth II.

Duchess Catherine (otherwise known as Kate Middleton) has scored her very first invite to the royal summer holiday at the Balmoral estate in Scotland.

She and hubby Prince William, 29, are set to join the elders toward the end of August for royal picnics, home-cinema evenings and family barbecues.

The getaway is a prime opportunity for Kate to bond with the Queen. "This is quite an important visit for Kate because," a source tells the Telegraph.

"Believe it or not, The Queen does not really know her well at all. Kate has never had an invitation before, but she is family now and The Queen wants to get to know her... The Queen needs to present Kate to Scotland. The time has come."

We just hope HRM doesn't ask if she's anorexic and pregnant. Could get weird.

Before that trip, however, Prince William and Kate Middleton have another wedding to attend (his first cousin Zara Phillipps is set to wed Mike Tindall July 30). That aside, they'll be spending a low-key summer in Wales.
