A few developments have been taking place since I wrote my initial mock draft. (As such there will be a final mock draft on Monday with some new twists. One starts at the top, where teams are starting to have concerns about top pitching prospect Gerrit Cole. He gave up 11 hits in his last outing and has struggled somewhat in the college postseason. Secondly, the Royals aren't as averse to taking top 3 college pitching prospect, Trevor Bauer as has been reported and lastly, and more disheartening for the Cubs is that Bubba Starling's stock continues to rise. Whereas I would have put the odds at 50/50 that Starling would fall to the Cubs a few days ago, I now think that there is probably less than a 10% chance (let's call it a 1.7% chance in honor of Bulls MVP Derrick Rose) that he gets by either Kansas City or Washington -- and he may even go as high as #2 overall to the Mariners. It's time to prepare ourselves that we won't get our guy -- and curse the Cubs for going on that end of the season win streak that did little but inspire false confidence and lower our position in the draft.
