Master of the Camera, famed Chicago photographer Gordon Parks, actor Richard Gere, and many other artists had incredible photographs on display Wednesday night at Gotham Hall in NYC.

Their images were there to be auctioned off for The Gordon Parks' Foundation, which works to preserve and continue to make available to the public Gordon Parks' creative work and honors others who have contributed their lives to the arts.

Our Very own Celebrity Magnet was in attendance and learned all sorts of things. For one, Gordon Parks was the director of the hit TV series 'Shaft'...Can you dig it?

Murro learned that Parks made a name for himself in St. Paul as a fashion photographer. When Marva Louis, the wife of heavy-weight champion, Joe Louis, saw his photographs on display in a fashionable store, she encouraged him to move to Chicago where she could steer more fashion photography work his way. Using the darkroom of Chicago's South Side Arts Center, he supported his family through fashion photography while documenting life in the city's slums. In 1941 His documentary photographs won him a Julius Rosenwald Fellowship, paying him $200 a month and offering him his choice of employers. In January 1942, he went to work in Washington, D.C., for Roy Emerson Stryker in the photography section of the Farm Security Administration, where he joined some of the finest documentary photographers in the country.

He also learned what it felt like to feel short as he chatted with the beautiful 6'1" ,without heels, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff who is the Fashion Director at Lincoln Center and Heiress to the Harry Winston Jewelry fortune..

For Tom, the night was spent with some huge names of Hollywood. Among others at the event were supermodel Iman and a very gracious Russell Simmons who Tom ran into in the lobby, taking note of his all white sneakers. A sharp, expensive suit, bow tie and white sneakers? Russell Simmons is definitely a man to admire.

Some big names weren't automatically recognized by Tom, though. It was only towards the end of the party that Tom learned the strange looking man with gray hair, leather driving gloves, odd jewelry and dark glasses that he had talked to earlier, was none other than the legendary Karl Lagerfeld.

Karl Lagerfeld and Tom Murro

Tom also was able to catch up with Spike Lee, reminiscing about their golf course encounter two years ago that resulted in Tom meeting President Obama. Between jokes, Tom was finally able to give Spike his gift: the picture of Jackie Robinson sliding into home plate in the 1955 World Series signed by Yogi Berra, the Yankees catcher in the photo, Berra, had signed it, "Dear Spike Lee, he was out!" Tom gave an identical picture to Obama last August. Spike was thrilled with the gift and it's no surprise! Yogi Berra was on the New York Yankees, and as shown by the Yankees logo embroidered on Spike's blazer that night, he is a huge fan!

Overall the event was a success. With an open bar, jumbo coconut shrimp, a performance from the Blue Man Group and photographers from McMullan and Getty, what more could you ask for from a Wednesday night?
