I'm driving the Chevrolet Cruze Eco this week, which gives me the chance to spend a week with one of my all-time favorite features from any manufacturer across any vehicle I've ever driven: OnStar.

All you have to do is press the blue button and you can get anything from restaurant suggestions to directions that appear unobtrusively in your car. All by speaking to a real person who speaks back to you and actually understands what you're saying. And the person on the other end of the line? Really pleasant and helpful. Be sure to see my video demo at the end of this post.

No shouting into a random microphone that thinks I live in Santiago rather than Chicago. No frustrated cancelling. And, best of all, no disabled technology because you happen to be driving.

While the blue button comes standard on all GM vehicles, you do have to pay extra for a subscription fee. Packages start at $18.95 per month ($199 per year) for the Safe & Sound package, which includes automatic crash response, hands-free calling, vehicle diagnostics, roadside assistance MyLink mobile app and stolen vehicle assistance. If you want to add navigation, you'll have to upgrade to the Directions & Connections package, which costs $28.90 per  month ($299 per year).

But it is well, worth the cost. I'd pay the yearly fee in a heartbeat.
