Presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, raised $4.5 million for his campaign in the second quarter, falling just short of a $5 million goal. But a spokesman noted the campaign is still counting "mail and other checks."

Paul is taking a break from the trail over the weekend for a family barbecue but will head back to Iowa to campaign on Wednesday.

Frontrunner Mitt Romney announced Thursday his campaign raised nearly $20 million but Paul edged out former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman for the quarter.

Fox News Dallas Bureau producer Maggie Kerkman contributed to this report.
