The Cubs have put Jeff Baker on the disabled list Monday because of a strained groin, and called up infielder DJ LeMahieu from Double-A Tennessee.
I am kind of excited about seeing the Cubs' second-round pick in 2009, LeMahieu was batting .358 with 15 doubles, two triples, two homers and 27 RBIs in 50 games with the Smokies. The only question is will I see him?
LeMahieu can play second, shortstop, and third base. With Darwin Barney playing well, could the Cubs have a look at LeMahieu at third to give A-Ram a break?
The Cubs could have called someone else up just to play the utility role like Bobby Scales or even Ryan Flaherty, who is seen as less of a prospect.
If LeMahieu doesn't get a look this makes little sense. Maybe the Cubs want to start that look into the future?, even if it's just a peek right now.
If the kid isn't overmatched, maybe the Cubs find a way to deal A-Ram at the deadline, and let him see some time at third?
That's a long-shot, but I can hope.
