7 Ways To Make THIS Memorial Day Memorable

7 Ways To Make THIS Memorial Day Memorable

It's Friday and most of us will have a 3 day weekend due to the holiday. This is when we all flash back to our youth and get excited as if it were the last day of school. For the most part we just want to be still and enjoy that lack of responsibility, even if its just for a little while but at the end of the mini-vacation we always have a hard time remembering what we did. C'mon, you know it's true. So, I decided to make a difference in the world today and give you the tools you need to make this holiday one you will NEVER forget.

7. Ditch The Network
Yes, we are so bent on tweeting and Facebook-ing every second of our lives that we forget to live them! My mom says Facebook is the devil, I doubt it, if it is, the devil is much more cooler than I had imagined since my Sunday school days. All of that can wait. All you need is a camera. ( I know this might count as a gadget but hey it's not a social network!)

6. Be Social

A pet peeve of mine with every Holiday is the fact that the same people always host the events. For some reason they never allow others to host and allow themselves to go out and be social. If you have the BBQ at your house every year your whole life, make things  different. You're almost setting yourself up for failure by thinking you're too good to go to someone else's house and celebrate. Take a stand and step out of your comfort zone. Take the meat to a friends, leave a note on the door and YOU kick back and relax! It's been years, enjoy the pressure being handed off!

5. Get Competitive

Nothing says family like a good old challenge. It is going to be nice this weekend so break out the garbage bags and the water slide. I want to see those card tables and timers getting cleaned off and ready for a smashing good time. Why? You're gonna bring a little challenge to the party this year. Try to have a few rounds of competition and whoever wins 3 Uno or spades games wins 10 dollars. Try having the kids to hop around in the garbage bag down the street. Whoever is the fastest wins movie tickets. How about a good old game of rock paper scissors? You're never too old to bring back the classics. Trust me in a world like the one we're living in now we need that comfort!

4. Vinyl Anyone?
I know it is something that will have the youngsters go crazy but break out the Frank Sinatra, The Dells, The Temptations and maybe even a little jazz. We have to remind ourselves that we are a nation of culture. It's necessary that we remind folks that music should be about true emotion. Love, revolution and religion not I want to see how you drop it low.

3. Make Grandpa Proud
We forget about our seniors on days like this. They want to come out and play too. I know that no one wants to deal with the fact that they will be ready for bed at 6 pm or that they can not miss an episode of Perry Mason on a channel that no one has ever heard off but we need to make sure that we are interacting with all of our generations. Thats the way to make sure the circle of life is full of wisdom. If you're worried about accidents there is a random sell on Depends at Walgreens "Today only!"

2. Be Creative

Welp, it's almost time to put the kids to bed and even if it is not lets try and make sure we don't forget the ones we are celebrating. Let's sit the kids down and have them write their own bed time story tonight. Include a family member that might have been lost in the war. It's a good way to introduce them to history, their family roots and sprinkle a little seed of pride within them.

1. Take the time to Remember!

This is for my homies, off in a better place! Pour out a little libations and think about the good times. We get so wrapped up in making sure we have the best Potato salad that we ignore the reason for the season. ( Ooops, wrong Holiday but the context still fits!) Sit down  around the comforting flame of the OFF candle and get to telling stories. Pop a few bottles and look at the sky. Someone is looking down on you thinking, IT'S ABOUT TIME!
